Initially it is a place for princes to study at, after the Dynasty expanded it to receive the excellent students from all over the country.
Hoa Lo Prison which is in top 10 world’s most notorious prison, built in 1896 under the French colonial period and is the place held many Vietnam political prisoners. Later, from 1964 – 1973, Hoa Lo Prison also used to detain American pilots during the Vietnam War and is called by American prisoners as “Hanoi Hilton”.
